September is Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month ? MUSC ...

It?s September again and that means it?s Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month.? This is an important designation, as over 80,000 women in the United States ? including over 1,100 in South Carolina ? will develop a gynecologic cancer this year.? Awareness of these cancers, by women and healthcare providers, is extremely important in improving the chance of making the diagnosis early in the disease process so that optimal care, with good prognosis, can be achieved.?

At MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, our Gynecologic Cancer Program encompasses all aspects of diagnosis, surgery, treatment and management of?cervical cancer,?endometrial cancer, ovarian cancer, uterine cancer?and?vulvar cancer.?We offer the most advanced strategies for early diagnosis and?staging?of all types of gynecologic cancers including:

  • Human papillomavirus testing in addition to Pap smear
  • Colposcopic assessment for cervical pre-invasive and invasive disease
  • Same-day in-clinic fine needle aspiration
  • Positron Emission Tomography (PET/CT Scan)
  • Interventional Radiology for image-guided biopsy
  • Robotic surgery
