You won?t start by going out to your lighting store and choosing a fixture, but with a basic idea.
Questions to ask yourself may be what should my space look like?? What style of lighting appeals to my taste?? Maybe you gravitate to modern decor and will want clean lines and recessed lights.? Then again, you may be someone who loves the grandeur of beautiful?crystal chandelier lighting.? Either way, there are several steps that need to be taken before you go shopping for your perfect selections.
Does the area have any special problems with lighting that may need to be addressed?? Does the room get mostly daylight or is it a darker room that may not get plenty of sunlight?? In places such as the laundry room or a closet, you will just want basic bright light.? In rooms such as the kitchen, living areas, and dining rooms, you will want those lights to be more interesting and create ambiance.??? In the majority of rooms, there should be at least three different types of lighting that are considered, and they are ambient lighting, task, and finally, lights that will accent the room decor.
Once you have decided on a basic concept, you?ll want to consider the types of light bulbs for your fixtures.?Which direction will it shine?? Some will light in all directions, while others are more focused, such as your task lighting.???? Map out a plan for the room, and then start shopping accordingly.? This will be much simpler than just shopping with no direct plan in mind.? Sure, there are some fabulous lights, but are they really what you would need for a particular space?? For example, a baby?s room might need soft lighting such as a lamp or?mini chandelier?in a children?s design.? ?Pay attention to the life of the bulbs for the fixture you like and make sure you know if they will need to be changed often.? Make sure to do some homework and find out if the bulbs needed for the light fixtures will produce enough light and will they possible be expensive to replace.
