Pets and More Pets ? Everything You Need To Know About Dog ...

There are a number of reasons for having a pet dog. Perhaps, it was that irresistible puppy or the dog with lovable eyes! Needless to say, an obedient one is ideal. That takes training to accomplish! This article will provide some helpful ideas for doing just that!

Always remember that it takes time and patience to train a dog. Some dogs pick up things quickly, while others take longer. Each individual dog will have their own learning pace, so be sure to be aware of what your dog?s pace is. Try to be as positive as possible when working with him so that he thinks it is a fun activity to do with you and will look forward to your training sessions.

An important key to effective dog training is to always enforce the first command that you give to your dog. It is a mistake to keep repeating the command over and over again. The dog needs to learn that a command requires instant obedience. Do not give the dog the opportunity to disobey. Enforce the first command, and then promptly give a reward and praise.

Try making sure they have some activity by taking them for long walks, or if you must stay home, a long game of fetch. Your dog will be too tired out to bother digging.

If possible, position your dog?s crate next to your bed. This is a critical step in teaching him that is where you want him to sleep. Since you are still within sight he isn?t as likely to panic about having to stay in the crate for an extended period of time.

Use your pet?s name often to reinforce familiarity. It is important that your dog knows its name well, so that you can gain their attention at a moment?s notice. Reinforce their name as a positive experience using it when calling for food, treats, walks, or any activity your dog enjoys. Refrain from using their name when you are angry, or they could learn to fear it.

Training a dog is easier if the pet is neutered or spayed. Unless you are breeding the animal, taking the hormones out of the equation will greatly calm your pet. Without the constant rush of hormones, a dog is much more docile and receptive to a leader. This will also help control the pet population which is a win-win situation.

The diet you are feeding your dog needs to match their needs and activity level. The diet that is right for a working dog is a lot different from that of a dog that lounges around the house all day. Talk with your vet regarding what is right for your pup and don?t forget their needs will change as they age.

As was discussed in the beginning of this article, puppy chewing is a problem only if you do not give him something else to focus on. Apply the advice from this article on the proper way to train your puppy not to chew up your home, and soon you will see your dog finding non-destructive ways to occupy his or her time.
